Building training partnerships with the automotive industry

This paper arises from a project which intially set out to establish whether Challenger TAFE's current training practices within the automotive and marine mechanics industries were meeting industry requirements. A series of seminars were conducted in convenient locations in the region in which Challenger TAFE operates. The college is now trialing a distributed environment for automotive and marine mechanics training in the region which will be reviewed before being applied to other sites. This paper reviews the project method and poses the question of how the community of practice/industry network can construct a business development working model for training and training related services that is multifaceted, versatile and yet practical enough to apply to and in different locations.
