This paper reports on a development project, commissioned by the Victorian Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE), to develop an applied technology framework which provides a lifelong learning pathway to meet the learning needs of tradespeople. Given the predicted future rate of technological change, these tradespersons will need to find innovative applications for technology which have not yet been developed. How they might be equipped with the knowledge and skills to meet technological challenges in the future is a basic question which the project needs to address.
