This paper describes the vocational education and training (VET) program developed and implemented in the Australian meat processing industry and the outcomes of that program. It profiles the meat processing industry and describes the development of the VET program. Outcomes of the program are looked at and areas of tension that are impacting in training in the industry are identified: national/state tensions; public/private sector tensions; tensions in a supply and demand driven training system; and tensions related to a government funded or a user pays system.
