The changing face of VET: a provider-level case study from Victoria

In June 2002 the Victorian Minister for Education and Training released 'Knowledge and skills for the innovation economy' indexed at TD/TNC 71.01, a statement on future directions for the Victorian vocational education and training (VET) system. Each Victorian TAFE institution was asked to respond by documenting its vision, strategic directions and priorities. This paper provides a case study of the Swinburne University TAFE Division response. The TAFE Division developed a comprehensive vision of its future structure and activity based on expansive demographic, industry, labour market , competitor and catchment research, a sound strategic planning framework, strengths and specialisations in training provision, the advantages derived from close cooperation between Swinburne University's TAFE and higher education divisions and a willingness to address the Government's innovation and caring community agendas.
