'Training journal' provides current and practical information for those involved in workplace learning, training and development in the UK. The features articles in this issue include: 'The talent war in hindsight: just part of the bubble economy' by Charles Woodruffe (p. 14-16) in which the author examines some popular thinking about organisations and their staff in the 1990s and debates whether it is still relevant in the current context; 'Small group, big impact: how to facilitate a vision workshop' by Monica McCaffrey and Larry Reynolds (p. 18-21) which provides practical advice on how trainers can help employees to reach a shared perspective on the future of their organisation; 'Fear in leadership: the adrenaline journey' by Tony Hare (p. 30-32) which outlines advice on how leaders can overcome fear and harness the positive energy it creates. This issue also contains the third installments of a three-part series on National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and a short series on learning management systems: 'National Vocational Qualifications: a practical guide: part 3: learning from learners' by Claire Llewellyn West (p. 8-12) which examines the perspective of the learner and highlights the diversity that learners can bring to the process of attaining their NVQs; 'Learning management systems: part 3: making the right decisions' by Howard Hills (p.34-37) which provides a method for choosing the learning management system that is most appropriate to an organisation's requirements. The first parts in each of these series appeared in the January issue of 'Training journal', indexed at TD/TNC 72.474 and the second parts in the February issue, indexed at TD/TNC 73.225. Also included in this issue is news on recent events, reviews of resource materials for trainers, and surveys and trends on the UK government's training initiatives and workplace reforms.
