The MLA Committee on Lifelong Learning was formed in June 1999 following the Alberta government's commitment to leading and working with partners to build a globally recognised lifelong learning culture and community in Alberta. The Committee was asked by the Minister of Learning, the Honourable Dr. Lyle Oberg, to consult with key stakeholders to review the existing situation, identify gaps and make recommendations on ways to help adults return to learning to improve their employment potential and realise their career goals. This report is the result of the consultations. It contains: Chair's message; Executive summary; Overview of the MLA Committee on Lifelong Learning; Lifelong learning (what it is, why it is important and lifelong learning for adults returning to learning); What we heard; Committee recommendations; Concluding remarks.
