While Alberta has a world class post-secondary education system, changes are needed to ensure it will meet the challenges of the future. This paper was prepared as part of the process to develop a blueprint for change to see the post-secondary education system through the next decade. It outlines key trends and discusses future challenges currently influencing the development of the post-secondary system. These are: roles and responsibilities; accessibility and affordability; and globalisation, technology and the knowledge-based economy. It concludes with a number of key questions that emerge in considering the appropriate strategies to move the system forward.
