This magazine provides articles and reports on European Community policies in the fields of education, training, youth, audiovisual technology, culture, languages, sport and civil society. It is published twice a year, in June and December. The focus of this issue is on empowering Europeans, through education and training, to move faster into the knowledge society. It covers strategic issues in education and training which include quality and effectiveness of systems, greater flexibility and opening up of education and training to the wider world; capitalising on people’s hidden skills through lifelong learning; e-learning; key issues to successful use of information and communication technology (ICT) at school; some myths about return on investment (ROI) in education and training; implementation of lifelong learning by social partners; flagship programs which improve education and training systems; mobility of workers; and helping the disabled find their place in society.
