From the ground up: a partnership between training providers, industry and the community

The second World Congress of Colleges and Polytechnics was held in Melbourne, Australia in March 2002. The Congress explored outcomes aligned to themes of accessibility, technology and globalisation, strengthening partnerships and youth as a vocational education and training (VET) customer. This paper was presented under the theme of strengthening partnerships and as part of the workshop on collaborating to succeed. It is a case study of a partnership of training providers, industry and the community. Land Connect Australia, a private Victorian training provider, and the South East Institute of Technical and Further Education (SE TAFE), a South Australian training provider, identified a need for training in weed identification and management and in cooperation with the Southern Grampians Shire, were able to provide training for rural based farmers and horticulturalists. This case study highlights one of the key themes of strengthening partnerships between institutions, industry and the community and shows what can be achieved by such partnerships.
