Thinking outside the square - the way forward for the future

The second World Congress of Colleges and Polytechnics was held in Melbourne, Australia in March 2002. The Congress explored outcomes aligned to themes of accessibility, technology and globalisation, strengthening partnerships and youth as a vocational education and training (VET) customer. This paper was presented under the theme of strengthening partnerships and as part of the workshop on engaging the customer. It is based on a workshop presentation and discusses how the activities of Adelaide Institute of TAFE, in establishing partnerships, support staff to develop entrepreneurial skills to enable them to enhance their existing knowledge and skills and to explore new opportunities and prepare to participate in information economy programs. It begins by discussing the environment that surrounds VET staff in 2002, looks at what the issues are for management and provides case studies as examples.
