The second World Congress of Colleges and Polytechnics was held in Melbourne, Australia in March 2002. The Congress explored outcomes aligned to themes of accessibility, technology and globalisation, strengthening partnerships and youth as a vocational education and training (VET) customer. This paper looks at the Chair Academy Leadership Program in the US. This program was initially developed in 1989 within the Maricopa County Community Colleges in Phoenix, Arizona with the aim of boosting the skills of newly appointed Department Chairs (Heads of Departments). The paper highlights the program and its developing emphasis on the development of global organisational leaders in VET.
