This paper reviews research which suggests a positive link between worker empowerment and the use of learned impression management skills. Key gender differences in the impression management behaviours and attitudes of the workforce of the future were identified, indicating that women had better impression management behaviours and men had more positive general attitudes. The paper concludes that formalised workplace learning in impression management skills would ensure that organisations did not foster unhealthy, politically motivated self-promotion while also ensuring that gender and ethnic differences are considered.
