Group training 2000 and beyond: a model of good practice for group training organisations operating to meet the skill needs of the SA building and construction industry

This report provides a model of good practice for the operation of a group training organisation which principally serves to support the trade and vocational requirements of the building and construction industry in South Australia. Whilst the model developed provides the elements considered to be good practice in the running of a group training organisation, it is recognised that there are a number of issues which may challenge the successful implementation of all such elements (for example, the need to address industry skills shortages versus the need to maximise scheme returns). It outlines the concepts recommended as integral to the successful operation of such an organisation. Sections B and C provide a ‘hands-on’ guide to implementing the attributes discussed in Section A. Section B focuses on the financial aspects, in particular determining the elements of the income and expenditure budget while Section C provides the good practice attributes for operational issues.
