This paper addresses the topic of the transfer of learning from the classroom to the workplace. It first summarises commonly used definitions and classifications systems associated with transfer of learning. An explanation as to why transfer of learning is not perceived as successful is given and several approaches currently being used in adult education and human resource development sectors to facilitate transfer are described. Suggestions for maximising transfer of learning from a typical adult education classroom are given.
