This document is the report of the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) Taskforce on Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools, made to the 12th MCEETYA Meeting in Melbourne in July 2001. It reviews the activities of the Taskforce in its objective to improve outcomes for young people in vocational education and training (VET) and to improve the transition of all young people from school to work and/or further study. Key achievements are discussed. The development and implementation of a new framework for VET in schools will ensure that young Australians will have improved and flexible pathways through education and to training qualifications. There has been considerable growth of VET in schools programs and in the participation of students as well as an increase in the number of school-based New Apprenticeships. There is a growing comitment to theprovision of enterprise and vocational learning opportunities to students across all levels of education and there is a recognition of the importance of enhancing collaborative partnerships between schools, business, industry and government and non-government organisations. The report reviews these achievements in detail and offers recommendations fir the future.
