Adult learning in the Caribbean at the beginning of the new century

'The area of the Caribbean Regional Council for Adult Education (CARCAE) stretches from Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in the west to the Bahamas up north, the Trinidad and Tobago down south and to the mainland countries of Guyana, Suriname and Belize, including the Netherlands Antilles. CARCAE, set up in 1977 as an interim council by the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) and selected as the advisory body on adult education in 1984 by the Standing Committee of Ministers of Education of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), has had a strong focus on literacy programs, the training of adult educators and the development of national adult education associations. This article highlights the importance of various marketing strategies, stressing a creative approach to the marketing process for adult education and with special reference to gender education for males in Jamaica.
