Today's global information society places many demands on people's lives and often there is a clash between the demands of the private life, the working life and active participation in the public arena. However, many employers still regard employees' private lives as being separate from their work life and lifelong learning. This article places lifelong learning at the cutting edge of private life, work and public sphere with the authors arguing for a more encompassing practice than is currently evident in policy circuits. They suggest that lifelong learning should be recast as lifewide learning.
