The Swiss/Bulgarian FAEL Foundation, established in 1994, has the main task of supporting the development of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Middle Balkan Mountains region. Specialising in sectors of industry dealing with the processing of agriculture and forestry products, the Foundation enquired of SME entrepreneurs in the region if they felt in need of improvement in their qualifications. More than seventy per cent responded that their qualifications needed to be improved, especially improvement in basic skills in the area of marketing. Three management and marketing skills modules were developed for training in the region.
