It offers five hypotheses on the connection between life and learning, discusses the question of 'who is a lifelong learner?', examines learning environments and their contribution to lifelong learning, advocates the promotion of cultural understanding of the individual learner and the need for lifelong learning to address existential themes such as the meaning of life, self, birth, growing up, etc. that are at the core of every individual's life, and concludes that lifelong learning should aim to promote the art of human maturity, a prerequisite to becoming a good citizen.
