Enhancing women's participation in technician education: a case study based on Indian experience

This paper discusses the status of women in Indian society focusing on their position in technician education. It examines the problems women confront and the efforts and strategic interventions at the government and institutional levels towards their empowerment. These initiatives include the National Policy on Education (NPE) and the World Bank-assisted Project (1990-1999) for improving technician education in India. The paper concludes with an outline of the project outcomes and suggestions for future activities.
