This paper describes how the Technical Teachers' Training Institute (TTTI) in Chandigarh, India established its Instructional Resources Marketing Unit (IRMU) on a commercial basis to disseminate and popularise the use of instructional resources developed by its faculty members. Prior to 1991, most of the instructional resources developed by the faculty were available free or at subsidised rates and it was felt that because of this, they were not valued by the users. The IRMU, established in 1995 as a micro-enterprise, is now emerging as a major source of revenue for the Institute. The paper covers the objectives for setting up the unit, the financial requirements, the factors contributing to its success, the difficulties encountered and their solutions, and the involvement of industry and other partner institutions.
