The study examines opportunities for learning in the context of in-plant modernisation projects. The researchers addressed the question of how learners succeed in increasing their participation in in-plant modernisation processes. The study is based on a project dedicated to introducing SAP software in an enterprise with 3000 employees. The focus of the study was the learning behaviour of employees in the introductory phase. Interviews were conducted in order to determine what typical obstacles to and opportunities for learning develop, [that is] at what points, how and why employees begin to learn from their primary, practical work contexts and how and why biographical and situational factors hinder the learning process. Conclusions are drawn for further developing learning and education theory in the area of adult education.
