Vocational training at the turn of the century

This monograph examines the recent developments in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) research in an international context. It covers a wide range of topics including comparative TVET research, the economics of TVET, the linkages between training and work, traditional and modern apprenticeships, the challenges of international TVET cooperation, and the impact of the policy shift from supply orientation to demand orientation. The analyses, written mainly by the author with some in cooperation with other experts, cover Africa, Asia and Latin America but are not restricted to developing countries only, and include articles on training in industrialised countries such as the United States, France and Germany. Chapter nine, 'On international cooperation in training', contains: Latin America: the battle between borrowing or creating - a regional perspective; Training policies in the World Bank: putting the act together. The final chapter is entitled 'Setting the record straight: a synthesis'.
