In response to the continuing high demand for information technology (IT) professionals in the United States of America (USA), the certification industry is using technological advances to improve its ability to meet this demand for computer scientists, systems analysts and programmers. Advances based on new technologies are being made in online learning techniques, opportunities for assessment and practice, testing technology, new industry standards, infrastructure to support certification of IT employees outside the USA and data collection in the area of job task analysis. The author examines these developments and the reasons for continual improvement in certification for the IT industry.
