This is the final report of a European project dedicated to Adult Education and Museum (AEM), which was conducted from 1996-1998 in the context of the European Union (EU) program SOCRATES. It is based on professional experience with adult education in partnership with museums in the EU's 15 member-states. The project's point of departure was the idea that museums, as repositories of our previous life situations, are excellent centres for adult education activities. Four objectives were developed from this idea: the potential of museums to contribute to adult education must be recognised as a new opportunity; interesting projects in this area must be offered; in order to ensure optimal conditions for such programs, it is important to capitalise on good experiences by informing culture officials about the results of successful initiatives; [and] training programs must be developed for focused and ongoing partnerships.
