The authors support the view that the construction industry is currently being shaped primarily by changing labour market conditions and only to a lesser degree by new technologies or autonomous forms of work organisation in enterprises. Particular attention is paid in the book to the environment of construction enterprises, which is a determining factor with regard to their internal structure. The first part of the book deals with economic developments, the product market, employment situation and unemployment in the construction sector. The book's second part is devoted to industrial relationships and labour market conditions, construction-specific labour market policies and vocational training. The final section addresses the stability/instability of the labour market in the construction industry.
