This state policy update provides the background to professional development in adult education, outlines the characteristics of state professional development systems and summarises the funding sources for professional development. It is based on an analysis of a survey carried out by the National Institute for Literacy (NIFL). The report highlights the professional development activities in four states: Kentucky, New York, Oregon, and Tennessee. Also included are a list of websites on adult literacy and the survey questionnaire.
