The first adult education centre in Finland was founded in 1899 and today there are 276 centres forming the country's largest sector of liberal adult education. This paper provides an overview of these centres. Focusing on the Helsinki Adult Education Centre, it covers the distribution of subjects and students, the demands on the curriculum and the challenges to liberal adult education.
