This report presents the findings of a research project that was designed to collect and disseminate research findings about teacher induction programs for beginning secondary career and technical education (CTE) teachers. The first section of the report outlines the rationale for teacher induction programs, highlighting reasons such as the expanding need for CTE teachers, the reasons teachers leave the profession, the influence of well-prepared teachers on student achievement, and the effects of changes in CTE on the expectations of new teachers, induction as a professional development strategy, and certification needs. The second part of the report presents research findings relating to the needs, experiences, and concerns of beginning teachers. It covers the definition and features of teacher induction and teacher induction programs, the experiences, concerns, and induction needs of beginning teachers, and those of alternatively certified CTE teachers. The final section of the report outlines recommendations for practice and research.
