Constitution and connecting vocational knowledge

This paper examines vocational knowledge and its construction over time, in order to reveal the connectedness of vocational knowledge and education with other forms of knowledge and education. The paper outlines the limitations and counter-productivity of polarisations that have developed across educational endeavours, seeking to redress erroneous perceptions of the nature and value of vocational, technical, practical, applied and functional knowledge. The paper also addresses the counter-productivity of contemporary outcomes-based vocational education and argues for restoring individual and societal concerns to vocational education. The paper concludes by suggesting approaches to connecting knowledge more effectively across educational sectors.
