The purpose of this study is to disseminate best practice of local, regional and interregional experiences in the field of education and training to help ensure that successful innovative projects become part of the mainstream policy. It contains 11 case studies and a further 17 examples of good practice reflecting a variety of approaches to intercultural education. The case studies are: (1) The Non-Discrimination Charter in the education system of the Flemish community - Belgium; (2) Examples of local policies concerning the integration of refugees and immigrants - Denmark; (3) The distance learning project for gypsies in Rouen - France; (4) The RAA network in North Rhine Westphalia - Germany; (5) Educational material for intercultural education in primary schools - Athens, Greece; (6) The action project on bilingualism in Turin - Italy; (7) The educational policy in Rotterdam - The Netherlands; (8) An experience with intercultural education at secondary school in Can Tunis/Barcelona - Catalonia - Spain; (9) How to support and improve an intercultural nursery school - Rinkeby, Sweden; (10) Examples of local policies and projects on intercultural education in the United Kingdom; (11) Development of Intercultural Education through Cooperation between European Cities (DIECEC). Additional examples of good practice are: (1) Education programme for foreign youths - Vienna, Austria; (2) Bilingual education and team teaching in Carinthia - Austria; (3) Alternating education for nursery school teachers - Flemmish Community, Belgium; (4) Student exchange in the Region of Midi Pyrenees, France; (5) A cross-border project in the Upper Rhine region - France; (6) Reseau Intercultural et Education - Sevres, France; (7) Local minority language provisions - Finland; (8) Educational facilities for minority children in North Rhine Westphalia - Germany; (9) A teacher training programme for intercultural education - Athens, Greece; (10) Education for travellers: local/regional teachers' centres in Ireland; (11) Educational projects in the Commune of Livorno - Italy; (12) Multilingual education in Luxembourg; (13) Careers education at primary schools - Utrecht, The Netherlands; (14) Central Registration Point Primary Education in Zaanstad-Zuid, The Netherlands; (15) Intercultural education within teacher training - Lisbon, Portugal; (16) The Compensatory Education progamme of the Generalitat of Catalunya; (17) The Intercultural Education Partnership (IEP), United Kingdom.
