The publication makes a contribution to designing complex and networked learning scenarios in initial training for metalworking occupations. Proceeding from the structural change in metalworking and machine technology, the author examines training concepts for future skilled workers and continuing training offerings for instructors. The author stresses the importance of the production process and argues for a form of initial training that is not technocentric, but rather multidimensional in terms of its organisation. The notion of a 'learning factory' is introduced, which is constituted by a partnership between the training enterprise and the commercial/technical vocational school. The learning factory is intended to promote self-directed learning and work; the most important functional areas of the enterprise comprise the learning fields. The book is directed at students, vocational school instructors, training planners and researchers who are concerned with didactic issues in the area of commercial/technical occupations. It is also intended for instructors who are interested in intensifying the cooperation between the places of learning involved in the dusl system of vocational training.
