Apprenticeship: a model for lifelong learning in the workplace

In this article the author suggests that the time is right for apprenticeship to come into its own as a model of applied learning that works for today's learners and for industry and the economy, blending well into the continuum of learning. Apprenticeship training programs exist in all sectors of the economy (motive power, industrial manufacturing, construction and the service sector) but the apprenticeship system of learning has moved beyond its simple origins of master teaching apprentice. With this in mind, the article presents a model of apprentice training with great potential for expansion and with the potential to enhance greatly lifelong learning.
