Recently, the economics of the developing world focus more on employment and training for workers in the informal sector. Recent information on the informal sector has been rather scant in India. This article reports on a study into training for work in the informal sector with the objectives of: reviewing the issues relating to training for employment in India and abroad; examining the employment opportunities and training activities in the study area; and suggesting measures for promoting employment in different activities.
