The book is concerned with the history, current crisis and future of work. The authors address the changing form of work in Europe from pre-industrialisation through industrialisation to the present. Also discussed are work experiences and working conditions in a number of non-western cultures and the current employment crisis in Europe. The authors consider competing recommendations for addressing European unemployment and the changing relationship between work, knowledge and education.
