The documentation compiles in overview form existing statistical material from the individual areas of the education system. First, structural data are presented on school-goers and students in the Federal Republic of Germany and on the demographic developments according to age, degree of education and types of schools. The areas of general education schools, vocational schools, vocational training and higher education are presented in detail. The data are complemented by summaries of public expenditures for the education system, the promotion of training and career advancement, continuing vocational training as well as a number of international overviews. The majority of the overviews encompass the time period 1998-99. Numerous statistics include developments as far back as 1970. Population and employment prognoses project developments up to 2040.
