In the past, employers have relied on credentials from educational institutions to ensure that individuals have the required knowledge, skills and abilities. However, the growing demand for skills in information technology has put pressure on the traditional system of credentialing. This article discusses the shift from a static system of institutionally controlled credentials to an environment of ongoing learning and the need for educational institutions and employers to work together to come up with a credentialing system that works for the future.
