Moving from adult education to lifelong learning

This issue of the 'Australian training review' features a number of articles on adult education to mark Adult Learners Week, held between 2-8 September, 2001. In this editorial piece, the author suggests that the time has come to start looking at adult education from a lifelong learning perspective instead of seeing it as being about giving adults a second chance at education. Globalisation and the onset of the information age together with an ageing Australian population have meant that continuous leaning is now becoming the norm and the author says that while Australia has already made considerable progress in the development of adult learning, more will have to be done to develop a fully comprehensive lifelong learning policy to make lifelong learning for all a reality.
