Post-compulsory education and training: some recent research findings and their policy implications

This article examines the extent and value of participation in post-compulsory education and training on the part of different populations. It provides a summary of key research findings based on a national survey of early school leavers (2000), using data from Educational Outcomes Survey (1994-1996), and by tracking students in the Victorian Certificate of Education (1998). The author also provides a theoretical discussion and presents his ideas about policy options to achieve greater equity and effectiveness in the way Australian secondary education currently works.
