Good practice in the accreditation of prior learning

This book, written to provide practical guidance on the implementation of accreditation of prior learning (APL), begins with a discussion of the developmental and theoretical issues in APL. The focus is on the United Kingdom (UK) but it also considers the development of APL in other countries, including the United States of America (USA). The chapters of this first part, entitled 'Conceptual issues in the accreditation of prior learning', are: Educational context of good practice; The nature of evidence; The assessment and accreditation process; Quality assurance in APL; Organisational context of APL; and APL: an evolving agenda. The second part, entitled 'Worked examples of two portfolios' focuses on application issues and aims to show how the various elements of good practice can be realised by including some worked examples of good practice. The chapters in part two are: Example of good practice portfolio: from Management Charter Initiative (MCI); and Modular degree APL portfolio.
