This survey was commissioned by the Pharmaceutical Industry National Training Organisation (PhINTO) to investigate skills and training issues for the industry and the contribution of the sector to the United Kingdom (UK) National Training Targets. A principle aim was to develop a survey tool to support ongoing monitoring of skills and training issues in the pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical industries. The survey was complemented by other sources of data which enabled specific aspects of the sector to be examined. The report presents the outcomes of these activities and contains the following sections: a description of the structure of the sector; details of the survey sample and response; evidence from the survey in relation to National Training Targets; skills, recruitment and training issues; other training issues including barriers to training and non-pharmaceutical specific training; evidence of the regional dimension of the sector and its skills and training issues; the relationship of the higher education output to the sector based on data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA); and summary and conclusions.
