Jobs, technology and skill requirements in a globalized economy: country study on Singapore

Singapore's economy, dependent on trade and direct foreign investment and tied up with the global economy, is much affected by the emerging trends in terms of globalisation and technology. This has prompted substantial industrial and corporate restructuring. In response to these opportunities and challenges, a tripartite approach involving government, labour and management is taken to review strategies and measures to ensure the labour force's productivity and competitiveness. This study identifies the role played by specific labour market policies in the increased competitiveness of new growth sectors and provides an analysis of specific sectoral policies and measures which promote the generation of high quality jobs to maintain international competitiveness.
