From corporate to supply-side federalism? Narrowing the Australian education policy agenda, 1987-96

This chapter provides an overview of the educational changes that occurred between 1987 to 1996 under the regimes of the Hawke-Keating Labour Government and the Howard Liberal-National Coalition Government. The authors review the economic, social and political agendas of each government, look at the implications of Labour’s ‘corporate federalism’ and the Coalition’s ‘supply-side federalism’ and conclude that there has been a progressive narrowing of the education agenda.
