This publication summarises four reports and papers prepared by the Further Education Development Agency (FEDA) for the Further Education Funding Council's (FEFC's) Learning and Technology Committee between October 1993 and July 1995. They are based on research into issues associated with the application of technology in support of learning in further education (FE) colleges in the United Kingdom (UK). The first paper outlines the main themes from Learning & Technology Committee press surveys related to technological developments, organisational changes, and learning applications. The following two papers are based on reports of visits to major North American conferences and document applications of technology to learning in community colleges with relevance for FE colleges in the UK. The final paper examines the use of information technology (IT) in their own training programs by a small number of British companies. Some comparison is made between North America and the UK with respect to the emphasis on IT in learning.
