Student retention: case studies of strategies that work

This report presents case studies from four further education (FE) colleges in the United Kingdom (UK) which have been working to improve student retention over the last few years. The case studies are practical and demonstrate successful strategies in a variety of college contexts. The report also reviews Further Education Development Agency (FEDA) research into the relationship between tutorial processes and student completion rates. Research into several strategies that have been implemented and evaluated in North American community colleges is also reviewed. Some tentative generalisations are made on the basis of the comparison of the UK and North American case studies.
