Media in transition: redefining the skills set

This unpublished paper identifies the major transitions that the media industry has been through in its long history from printing, radio, television to interactive multimedia. The Internet is widely recognised as the fastest growing communication medium than any media before. It has shifted global communication onto a new level. The paper examines technological trends of various media and traces the potential tracks for convergence of media. Media course developers will find that the trends and tracks may help to redefine the skills set for a new breed of media professionals.
