This publication presents, in three languages, a program of conferences prompted by the Preamble to the Treaty of Amsterdam which emphasised the importance of the highest possible level of knowledge for everyone. Evidence from the Joint Report on Employment 1999 revealed that only a limited number of countries have a clear lifelong learning strategy and the Conference of Ministers of Education, Labour and Youth from the European Union (EU) and Central and Eastern European Countries was organised in March 2000 to launch LEONARDO II, SOCRATES II and YOUTH - all on the theme of lifelong learning. Other conferences covered are: Conference of the Ministers of Education of the European Union, the Associated Central and Eastern European Countries and Cyprus - Bucharest, June 2000; Education, Integration and Citizenship - from Autonomy to Curriculum Development - Santa Maria da Feira, April 2000; Higher Education Open to New Publics - Porto, May 2000; Teacher education policies in the European Union and the quality of lifelong learning - Loule (Algarve), May 2000; Conference of Directors General for Higher Education and Heads of the Records Conferences of the European Union - Aveiro, April 2000; Conference of the National Education Councils - Lisbon, March 2000; and, Seminar to Launch the EUROPASS-Training - Costa de Caparica, February 2000.
