A kind of higher education for adult learners in community settings

There has been much discussion in recent years about what shape a mass higher education system might take in the United Kingdom (UK). Some have argued for a higher education system which meets the needs of adults learners, some have argued that higher education should model itself on the continuing education system of provision and others have claimed the need to preserve an intellectual model of learning that is distinctively 'higher'. This workshop invited participants to devise their own kind of higher education. The facilitators presented their version of higher education, which is designed to cater for the needs of adults who choose to learn in their community locations and then invited participants to critique and discuss its viability as a future kind of higher education.
