EMPLOYMENT is a Human Resources Community Initiative of the European Social Fund and comprises four funds targeted at people who are 'socially excluded' or excluded from the labour market. The INTEGRA strand of EMPLOYMENT is intended to look at so-called 'hard to reach' groups of long-term unemployed people and to investigate ways to combat social exclusion. The workshop consisted of a brief introduction to an INTEGRA project, Action Learning for Local Development, in Coventry, United Kingdom (UK) and it highlights emerging good practice and raises some of the more thorny problems encountered. This will provide an opportunity to discuss some of the practical and ethical issues involved and to inform the wider policy debate by broadening the discussion so that colleagues can contribute ideas from other initiatives aimed at combating social exclusion.
