Women's access: making history

This monograph provides a brief history of some of the achievements of women in TAFE NSW over the past century since the establishment of the first technical college, Sydney Mechanic's School of Arts, in 1878. It looks first of all at women's courses, role models, achievements, fellowships, professional-level training, commercial classes, wartime contribution and post-war developments. The major changes which followed the establishment of the Department of TAFE in 1975 are then briefly examined, ending with the appointment of Women's Strategy Officers and the establishment of the Women's Education and Training Coordination Unit.
